Hi, I have been searching for neoprene rubber here in Ireland to be used as pads under a floating floor structure I intend to build in my drum tracking room... During my reasearch I came across EVA Closed cell foam which some distributers here are claiming can be used as an alternative to neoprene Vibration Pads. It comes in 12mm and 20mm thickness' and is substancially cheaper than neoprene... Does anyone have any experience with this product, is it worth getting some samples and doing some testing to see if it will over compress under the weight of the structure (as outlined already in this forum) Your thoughts are very welcome as always regards hally

Hally, if they are making that claim - then they must have test data to back it up - ask them to provide you with the test data - if you want to give us a link i would be happy to take a look for you....... Rod
Thanks Rod, I'll contact them tomorrow and try to get some test data from them, am i right in assuming you are dubious of these claims Here is a link (not an Irish company but selling the same stuff) http://metrofoam.com.au/eva-foam.html Scroll down to "Popular uses EVA Foam" and check out what they say, there is some density charts at the end of the page While your here Rod can u tell me if there is an alternative to neoprene for my proposed structure (pads under wooden deck), I'm having great difficulty finding it here? thanks hally

Sylomer?
I am not necessarily dubious - but always look for data - and always try to give any company the benefit of the doubt going into things. Andre mentioned a widely used product for this purpose - one that should be readily available. A review of this products data indicates that it is well tested (everything is right there in the open on the website) my only curiosity relates to the life cycle of the product. I would recommend the sylomer - it is well known..... try this company: http://www.proctorgroup.com/index.asp?t ... okies=True They are located in Ireland Rod
Thanks Andre & Rod for the info and advise, I emailed that company for some info and prices, hope to hear back from them tomorrow... When i speak with them I will ask them for strips approx 4" wide and 1/2" thick. Does this thickness sound sufficient? I can give the exact details and cross section of the floor, wall and ceiling construction if it will help with your advise... Thanks hally
