Hi Everyone! First time poster, but have been lurking around this site for about 4 years. I have had a love affair with audio recording since I saw my first 4 track Tascam when I was in high school. My request is not geared toward studio design in the typical sense, but it is related to studio design. I'm a theatrical scenic designer and am currently working on a play that takes place in a late 1920s recording studio in Chicago. I'm looking for research photos of recording studios in the 1920s and 1930s and would like to know if anyone has any they can share, or if anyone can point me to some helpful books or websites. So you see I will be designing a studio, only one that's 90 years old and will sit on a stage. If this is in the wrong place or inappropriate, feel free to move or delete this post. I just know that you all are helpful and resourceful people and I could use the help. Thanks, Brian
Brian, you owe me big for this one - it was a pita....... but here: http://www.mainspringpress.com/studio_photos.html more importantly: http://www.mainspringpress.com/home.html look at their publications - more specifically: RECORDING THE 'TWENTIES The Evolution of the American Recording Industry, 1920–1929 Recording the 'Twenties chronicles the development of the American recording industry in response to changing musical styles, increasingly diverse markets, competition from new labels, the introduction of electrical recording technology, and the challenges posed by corporate takeovers, foreign ownership, and the advent of radio and the "talkies." Based on an extensive study of primary-source materials, Recording the 'Twenties dispels commonly accepted myths and misinformation to provide the first balanced, thoroughly documented survey of this pivotal period in the American entertainment and sound-recording industries. I hope this helped - and would be remiss if i did not point out to you that with the same elbow grease I used (google notwithstanding) YOU COULD HAVE FOUND THIS YOURSELF............ Sincerely, Rod
Thanks Rod, I wasn't expecting anyone to go searching for me, was only hoping for a recommendation off the top of their head. I really appreciate it. Brian
Thanks John, Brian, LOL - I don't know of many people who would have that sort of specific info (circa 1920) on the top of their head......... no problem - i was glad to help.........
