Hi guys i just had the "GO" to build my studio in some former offices building. 2nd floor, carpet floors upon cement, drywalls...low ceilings around 9-10 feets. I dont know exactly the measures yet...but i think its around 30' x 16'.. Also i downloaded Sketchup to see if i can design the office now and what i'd like to look after. This is a project studio so i was thinking the that the control room could be a little room maybe 12' x 12'?? Also the sound room would be the biggest room. Any ideas would be great guys. Thanks....
First, read the forum rules before posting :)
Hey Javier Whats up?? ITs me Jorge... What a small wide web this is!! Sorry what rules??
Sorry edited my profile and location. I should be taking some actual measures of the space this week! Thanks.
Hey Jorge, I didn't realize it was you. How are you :) Anyway, you should be very detailed and specific on this forum. There are so many people posting the same questions over and over that the experts gets bored sometimes. The more work you put on your posts, the more help you get ( you don't need to write 3 pages long too) I'd be glad to help you ;)
Thanks Javier. I got it! I'm just waiting for the keys and alarm code so i can go as much as i need. I'll post pix of the actual form and sizes.. Your latest studio looks amazingly good too!! felicidades. Jorge.
One more question: How small can a mixing / control room be considering that the band members or the artist would be there.. I was thinking that i rather have a large tracking room with a small size control room... My idea of small is about 14' by 10'. Any idea guys that would help me. As any diy noob its hard to get into terms and stuff like that..so please excuse me... Thanks.

That is square. Bad idea. You certainly do NOT want to have a square room!
My idea of small is about 14' by 10'.
That's sounds better! but you are missing one dimension! Rooms are 3D, not 2D. How high is the room? 14 x 10 might be great, or it might be terrible, depending on height. It is all about room ratios... Look for one of the good ones, and try to get your dimensions as close as possible to that, within reason. Once you have chosen your CR ratio and rough dimensions, you need to use the usual layout guidelines to get your speaker and mix position geometry right, then your basic treatment will fall into place, and you'll be well on your way to a good design. - Stuart -
Alright finally after 3 weeks of abundant work i had a day off. Get to the building and took some measures. The place i want for my control room is 12' x 13' and its 11' tall ceilings. The room for the sound room its 9' by 18' but this one the ceilings are only 8' tall. do you think i should use the 12' x 13' by 11' as the sound room and the other as the control room? The idea i had today was to use the bigger room and divide it in two big rooms (control room) and make a small booth with the rest...off course with the taller room as my main sound room! Thanks guys...
