I just finished drawing the plans for a 6'x8' modular vocal booth. it's 2x4 framed panels with double 1/2'' osb (gg sandwiched in between). it will use john's inside-out wall design, so the roxul afb will be on the inside covered with cloth.
what kind of cloth should I use though and how/where would I secure it to?
also, can I use 2'' afb and 2x3's instead of 3'' and 2x4's?
would 2'' and 2 1/2'' drywall screws be good for attaching the osb to the studs? and 3'' screws for the framing?
would you recommend getting a prehung exterior door from home depot and cutting it on the bottom to make it shorter, or custom ordering one from a millwork shop?
building a modular vocal booth, some questions

Unless you have more money than you know what to do with I wouldn't recommend either one. A prehung exterior door from the big box stores, as a generic term, will always, always be a metal door. And you are not cutting one of those with any degree of success >if< you want to have a working door. And then you have to modify the frame... But even if you are talking about a wooden door, well the same thing applies. A custom millwork shop...well, I rebuilt two exterior solid raised panel doors a few weeks ago...you don't want to pay for that unless, of course, you are spending Church monies as was the case. Your inside. Get a solid core blank door :)would you recommend getting a prehung exterior door from home depot and cutting it on the bottom to make it shorter, or custom ordering one from a millwork shop?
thanks for the reply. can you tell me how I would fasten the cloth over the roxul to seal it tight? even if I staple the cloth to the studs, there will be gaps between the staples. is this acceptable or will my health be at risk?
Why would your health be at risk? Your insulation is just mineral wool or fiberglass. Wear a mask, gloves and eye wear while installing it, sure, but after you have it, there should not be any problem.

sorry for being unclear, I meant after the booth is set up. a member on another forum suggested using trim to seal off the insulation at the edges, which sounds good to me.
I still don't get it: Why do you want to "seal the edges of the insulation"? There is no reason to do that, that I'm aware of! What purpose do you think that is supposed to accomplish?
the trim would be installed over the edges of the cloth covering the insulation. hope that makes sense now.
You can use any type of trim you have experience enough to cut and install. I have used wooden quarter inch X 1-1/2 inch batten strips to handle this issue. It gives a clean neat finish and is a fairly simple solution. It might be in your favor to stain and seal or paint the trim before you install it ;) You can also locate some batten that has a fabric wrap, designed to match vinyl covered plywood wall panels. Might not be your cup of tea, just another thought.the trim would be installed over the edges of the cloth covering the insulation. hope that makes sense now.
