Hello everyone. Well i've completed the framing for my iso/drum booth. its approximately 10' X 8'.5"X9' give and take some inches here due to a combo of inside out and regular walls. The walls are constructed of 2X4 framers, 24 on center, on a 2X4 baseplate and the top plate is double 2X4. The base plate is sitting on a 1/8" by 3" of neoprene rubber, to help seal it to the slightly uneven wood deck flooring. The framing is lag bolted into the flooring. The ceiling is constructed of 2X6's, 16 on center. It looks quite nice, and feels will have more "room" than expected. However, the structure does have a little "movement" going back and forth one way, the way opposite of the direction of the ceiling joists. When I get the two layers of sheet rock on there, will that stiffen it up solid? I really don't want to tie onto the outer wall or ceiling, losing isolation from a flanking path. Kinda ruins the whole point of the "room within a room" And another totally different question. Mix/Ceiling clouds. How big do they need to be? 4'X4' do the job? my nearfields are my only monitors and with mix position (at 38% of the room), we're looking at an equalateral triangle with five and a half feet between the points. I guess the same goes with wall and celing bass trapping as well. I will be super chunking the corners from floor to ceiling, but need to bass trap the front wall of the control room as well where the front wall meets the ceiling and wherethe floor and the front wall meet. Wondering if one each 2' by 4' panel straddling those corners will do the job. My control room is approximately 15 X 24 X 9.5 Thanks for your time.
So no one here has built a room within a room... and... had a little flex in the bare framing? Really?
Thanks John! Just being a bit paranoid I'm sure. I wouldn't be anywhere close without this place. Appreciate it.
Ok, yeah, first layer of sheet rock on, and its SOLID.
