I'm getting ready to start ordering materials for my project.
Does anyone know how these Sound Isolation Strips compare in performance and price to Backer Rod and Caulk?
Thanks for your help.
Sound Isolation Strip -versus- Backer Rod and Caulk

I think that this product might be very costly. It doesn't seem to be designed to do what backer rod and caulk do as far as filling voids.
I couldn't get a footage per roll either from their website...that is never good :)
Even though I have never used this, I would be hard pressed to stray from what is tried and true with backer rod and caulk.
I see a problem.
When hanging rock on walls, one is generally working from the top down, leaving a gap that varies at the bottom. It would be a lot more work to try to land the bottom of each sheet so that it was snug on that strip.
It says 25' rolls, in the fine print at the bottom. I could just get backer rod and acoustical caulk, instead.
I was re-reading Rod Gervais' book last night. I can't seem to find the section that says... leave a 1/4" gap below drywall, above drwall, and on the insde corners, and fill those gaps with backer rod and acoustical caulk.
I thought I read it in that book, but I can't find it now. Does anyone know of it's in there?
yes it's in there - look at detail 10.12, it doesn't call out the dimension - but that is easy to figure out based on the drawing.

I was looking at detail 10.12 yesterday. It doesn't show the floor. Does the book talk about what to do where the drywall meets the floor? Thanks!
Then start at the bottom :)I see a problem. When hanging rock on walls, one is generally working from the top down, leaving a gap that varies at the bottom. It would be a lot more work to try to land the bottom of each sheet so that it was snug on that strip.
