Although I have previously met Mr.John At PSW and congratulated for the very good on-line manual, I have just discovered this very nice forum via Mr. Ethan Winner. I will be here very often!LOL
I have a control room that had that very old silly approach of completly dead rooms . Compared to another room I build a few years ago myself with my father, it really sucks. I decided to get away of all that sonex/sonitec foam panels and also eliminate a dead small vocal booth that just damaged symetry inside my / close to my sweet spot.
The room is a rectangle, 6 meters x 3.6 meters, height = 2.7meters.
People have advised me to put the desk across the 3.6m dimension. As people enter the room, they will see the desk and behind it a window with a reasonably nice view from the sea and of my city.
please, If I am writing too many stupid non sense tech stuff, correct me. I am amoron concerning room acoustics!LOL
Based in my other room ( used to record choirs, drums, vocals), and is the closest example of something I can alter and in fact sounds cool and very nice..... I used an arrangement of wood, rugged stones and bricks in unparallel arrangement. I would like to post pics here so another people would criticize , try and give their opinions.
Now it is a complete different situation. It is a control room, where I will be mixing and junior mastering my stuff.
I was thinking of applying in one wall: a) 1.5 meters of height concerning this bricks arrangement ( can be seen in pic) and from the 1.5 to 2.7 ( up to the ceiling), a brazilian wood named Cedrinho/ Angelim Pedra. I dunno how to translate it to english but all I can say it is very good stuff.
My big doubts are:
1) what can I put in the parallel walls, the 6 meter walls of the basic rectangle.?
2) can I use rugged cool looking stone in one wall an the other one the same wood i mentioned earlier?
Also, I eliminated my unhealthy old dirty carpet from the floor.
3) I also intend to apply wood. Any special care?
I decided to put desk not facing the window also because i was thinking of preventing reflections from the glass and so.
If you could take a quick look at these pics and help me, I would be greatly thanked!
I will be starting the rebuilding next week.
Also, I use Monitor Ones from Alesis. Soon upgrading to Dynaudio BM/BM6´s.
Also important to observe: My room use(d) to have a boomy frequency around 115/135hz ( maybe Bb note). I know bass traps must be applied. Weel, too much for a while. LOL
Thanks again
hello from brazil!

please, do not forget that now desk is facing the smaller walls.
below, I attached the picture of the bricks/wood/stone crazy arrangement.
So... can I apply stone to one wall and wood to the other? I have just received an info that stones can be good or bad. I am not applying stones to the walls that monitors throw sound.
Thanks again!
Below I attached a new sketch, easier to understand my mess!
Thanks
some decisions based on advices and research
1- lowering the ceiling from 2.7 to 2.5 over sweet spo
2 - increasing lx so that ears are furter from front wall
3 - having to consequently diminish lo
4 - keeping curtaing at rear wall for better stero image
5 - not going to make a floating floor
still in doubt:
1 - left and right side walls.. what to apply. if apply wood and sonex or a combi of assymetrical bricks and wood or one wall completly with ruggedstones. any idea of this make sense?
2 - which wood floor thickness?
3 - sweeet spot front wall.. advised to heavily absorb.. which? fiberglass panels? wood?
thanks again
WOULD SOMEONE please gimme some additional help?
thanks in advance

Please don't shout Alecio. You've been around the forums long enough to know not to shout - plus surely you have worked out something for yourself??
Anyway try this
cheers
john
Hi! sorry if it sounds like shouting! no intention! LOL
I am very quiet!
Thanks for your nice info!
a few questions:
a) stones, wood, assymetrical bricks can not do a gud job on parallel side walls??
b) how many 703 fiberglass bass traps boards would do a nice job at this room?
c) the parallel side walls. must they have the same material or can apply wood at left and something else on the right?
it has been a long time since I talked to you at forums.
Hope ya are fine and with enough time to rest!
have a nice weekend Sir!!
thanks again
Alécio
again.. you suggested open insulation absorbers at side walls..
what types?
thanks again

just straight 703 in a box frame with a cloth cover. In my experience of forums to type in caps is to shout! cheers johnopen insulation absorbers
thanks dear! but how mnay would be necessary on the side walls? 1 sheet of 1" 703 does fine?
wood is problematic?
and what about the corner traps? also 703 over plywood, angled?
thanks

john
ok
hugs!
nice sunday
many thanks!
Jeez, John, I knew that typing in all caps was considered shouting, but I don't know any way to emphasize individual WORDS as if I would speak them slightly louder - Have I been being rude all this time un-intentionally, and if so is there another way? I just thought it made things clearer, like you were actually TALKING to a guy, not in a monotone - what say, should I quit capping words for emphasis, or what? (Might be better to PM me on this, as I might not get back here right away) ... Steve
hi!
1) is there any advantage making these wood frame boxes with mdf instead of regular plywood?
2) also, which thickness of wood would not diminish the efficiency of the Owens Crow rock wool? I read that this support wood reduces LF absorbtion .
3) as things change names when moving between countries, what is another name of pink insulation, used on ceiling tiles?
Here in Brazil, for example, there are OWC factories but no one knows their stuff as 703 or 705, just basically called rock wool.
thanks again
You can use either.hi! 1) is there any advantage making these wood frame boxes with mdf instead of regular plywood?
sorry I don't understand the question.2) also, which thickness of wood would not diminish the efficiency of the Owens Crow rock wool? I read that this support wood reduces LF absorbtion .
If you can't get a rigid fibreglass then rockwool will do in this case. cheers JOhn3) as things change names when moving between countries, what is another name of pink insulation, used on ceiling tiles? many thanks sir!!
1) i was watching your projects pictures, like the first two studios . what is the material guys put over all that rockwool at control room? it does not seem to be cloth.
2)regarding rockwool. must i keept it glued, loose or inside a plastic sack between ceilings? hmax is 2.76 hsweet spot= 2.36m
thanks again
nice tuesday
that's just cloth Alecio - i don't quiite understand you second question - if it's in the ceilng it's just sitting on the ceiling??
cheers
JOhn
Thanks Sir!
I have just found a nice rigid fiberglass dealer here. There is a special type that comes already with cloth over it. They say it can be glued directly to the walls with PVA white glue.
Also, this special cloth can be painted with a PVA tint, I think so. It is a little more expensive.. but seems to work. what is your opinion?
yes, I was referring to loose fiberglass between ceilings. so oka, right?
in terms of percentage, how much absoprtion quality do we gain using rigid fiberglass on walls and corner bass traps instead of regular rock wool?
I think this company´s rigid fiberglass is 5cm thick and the cloth cover is named glass fabric
thanks
nice tuesday
It sounds like a rigis finerglass which means it would be better than standard rockwool.
cheers
john
John, I was examining the fine pics of your site and in some cases the rockwool/fiberglass applied to walls and ceilings is covered with "gesso panels". I think you call it plaster or gypsium I dunno.
1) Do they reduce the fiber efficiency?
2) Is i better just to keep with fabric?
3) As years go by, won´t glued wall fiberglass start to cumble/fall?
I will apply thick fg in the sweet spot backwall.
4) what are the characteristics of wood? does it reflect too much? not a good idea using it unpainted for the side walls?
Million thanks!
:)
i don't understand :? cheers john"gesso panels".
you call it plaster panels. so? what about the other items?
Many thanks
Nice thursday
:)
plaster, gesso, call it what you like I still don't understand what you mean. If the insulation is covered with plaster then it's a new wall other wise if cloth it's a high frequency absorber.
I must say this Alecio - it appears that you really can't understand drawings and plans and you can't interpret pictures and drawings. That's fine - you probably can't understand circuit diagrams either, yet you don't try to design and build your own mic preamps, so why should try to build your own studio.
I suggest you hire someone to design and build your studio, just like you do with your mic preamps.
cheers
