Quiet rock = 8 sheets of "normal" drywall?
I think not.

The video appears to be a commercial for Quietrock. I also appears that the builder hasn't taken any notice of standard building codes! If you purchase a duplex where you can hear your neighbours in bed I'd sue the builder and the local council.
With all these types of product you have to compare cost. They claim 1 sheet of 5/8" (16mm) quietrock = 8 sheets of standard drywall. What do they class as standard drywall? I bet it's 1/4" (6mm) drywall. Quietrock uses a laminate system which is similar to double drywall with green glue so obviously they are getting better figures BUT how does it compare costwise.
I'd be interested in some one finding out the cost per sheet and doing a comparison as I'm suspicious since the video is an obvious con .
here are the figures for 5/8" type 530.
John,
even if their claims are real - the numbers blow it out of the water
Their cheapest product (the 510 - 1/2" thick) costs 49.95 per sheet per 4 x 8 sheet (for bulk buys). The good stuff I have seen priced at 135 usd per 4 x 8 sheet.
Green Glue did lab test comparisons of their product vrs this product (see the results here: http://www.greengluecompany.com/greenGl ... Panels.php ) and GG beat them hands down in the lower frequencies - fairly equal in the upper - but then again - we all know the upper frequencies are the easy to deal with areas.
Price wise - for the 5/8" product tested by GG - the cost of the standard GG wall (db 5/8" each side with GG on both sides versus the Quietrock 5/8" both sides was a no brainer......
GG cost per square foot of wall - 2.24 per s.f.
Quietrock - cost per square foot of wall - 5.86 per s.f.,
lets see - i can spend 3.62 per square foot more for a product that under-performs in the LF range - hummm - that's a hard call.
And (as i said) that is not the expensive stuff.........
Isaid it in my book and will say it again here - this stuf will perform - but there is no way at the cost per product that i would EVER consider using this product.

Thanks Rod - just as I suspected. ;)
My pleasure John. This company would have to make some serious drops in the price market before i would even give them a glance - but if they could make the match price wise - as I said - their product really does work the way they claim. rodThanks Rod - just as I suspected. ;)
