I have this space given to me to use as my studio. Its not much but it will have to get the job done. I am not looking to build a "super home studio" or anything even close because I dont have the time or money. What I would like to accomplish: I would like to build a control room out of the smaller sized room and a live room out of the larger sized room. I would also like to build a small vocal booth in the larger room(if possible). I will be recording drums in the larger room so isolation will be needed between the control room and the live room. What stage I am at: As of right now I have not gotten much further than sketch-up. I have some rough ideas of what I think may work referring to the control desk set up and vocal booth placement. **What I will be recording:(live room) [*]Drumset [*]vocals [*]electric/acoustic Guitar [*]bass guitar ***What I will be recording:(control room) [*]Midi work [*]hip-hop beats **Not all of these will be recorded simultaneously as I dont have a mixer big enough or enough mics ***The above will be done through software on my PC How loud I will be: I will be playing fairly loud, the drummer will be my biggest problem with isolation between CR and LR. I will be recording genres from hip-hop/Reggae/Rock/Jazz My Budget: I am not looking to spend a whole lot of money on the construction phase. I will be making my own bass traps/acoustic panels/clouds. I just where they should best be placed! as for a numerical value goes:$1,000 **please give me your full advice on this studio as the budget is stretchable About the room: *Disclaimer* I tried to measure these dimensions as best as I could so they are all +/- 3" The smaller room is: 11'2"L x 10'W The Larger room is: 17'10"L x 10'W The roof height is angle from the north wall to the south wall upwards 8'9" x 9'6" The northern wall is made of Sheetrock with 3" of insulation until it reaches the outer wall, which is composed of wood. -there is a wooden double open door adjacent to the wall dividing the two rooms -there is also a window partway between the door and the edge of the wall The western wall is sheet rock again with 3" of insulation until it reaches the outer wall, which is again composed of wood. -there is a window located partway between the 2 walls The eastern wall is the same as the western wall The southern wall is the same as the northern wall. -a small normal sized metal door about 1' away from the middle wall The middle(dividing) wall is wood covered in Sheetrock uninsulated and is about 3-4" thick -there is a door in the middle of the two walls, the door is a metal door The roof is made of the same material with thicker layer of insulation Questions: [*]Where should I place a vocal booth in the live room?(if you think it is necessary) [*]where should I place the setup of my control station? i.e computer, keyboard, mixer... [*]what should I do about isolating the live room and the control room? [*]where should I place acoustic panels/bass traps/ clouds/ETC. in both rooms? thanks a lot guy and I hope to hear your feedback!

anybody?
did I do something wrong?
Okay, without reading your entire post and only skipping to your questions (since they are somewhat general);
[*]Where should I place a vocal booth in the live room?(if you think it is necessary)
If YOU think it is necessary then I'd add it at the "back" (from the CR point of view). That way you can see, for example, the whole band AND the singer in the booth. (as in: put it in your line of view)
[*]where should I place the setup of my control station? i.e computer, keyboard, mixer...
In the smaller room for example. I like to have a bigger LiveRoom. But it's, again, up to you. Since there's a door in the middle you can't obviously put your stuff there. Keep the "in line of view" in mind. So put it (per given picture) at the bottom wall for example. Replace your door for a glass one to see through it :)
[*]what should I do about isolating the live room and the control room?
Read this forum, buy Rod's book etc.
[*]where should I place acoustic panels/bass traps/ clouds/ETC. in both rooms?
Same answer as above. in short: read first, ask question later. Get involved, learn the basics and start designing. Then post your design and ask specific questions. We're happy to answer any specific questions! We're not here to design a studio for you unfortunately. Cheers, Ro
