Hello everyone! I'm starting to plan the design of my new studio next to the house. Here are some images of what I've done. I really have the control room figured out, based on John's small studio design but I'm not sure abour the treatment for the Live Room because I want it to have enough space for a drum kit placed on the back of the LR facing the CR so the less volume of treatment on the sides of the kit the better, does it makes sense? hehe. Also I want it a bit live to record the kit, I thing it's posible since the roon has a descent lenght. The studio needs a lot of isolation on the LR side because it's very close to a highway and next to somebody else's house, that's why I placed a double concrete wall on that side...is that the right solution? since I don't have much width I was thinking that a double gybsum wall might take a lot of space and since in isolation is mass mass mass hehe I thought the concrete will do a better job. I'll be doing rock and metal mostly, but my band plays progressive rock and that might include lots of acoustic instruments. Thanks for any help guys!

Please read the forum RULES (stickies) that can be found at this link: viewforum.php?f=17 Please correct your initial post to conform with these rules and guidelines. Many here will not only NOT help while waiting in respect for owners and other better qualified persons to proceed, but will simply ignore these type of posts completely. You may want to immediately ask "what is it that I have missed". Most often it is as simple as including your geographical location in your profile. Trust me in that the more you know the better others can help you and that the answer to that question is in the forum rules linked page. Until then, good luck, Brien
Thanks man....I've been reading this forum for God knows how many years, can't believe I missed that hehehe. Edited now. Thanks!
Is there anything wrong still? :( sorry to bother if so....

sorry, I guess I drifted hehe....well I´m not sure about the treatment for the LR can you guys suggest the most adecuate?, I just placed some treatment on the design that made some sense but as I said I want to have a drum kit placed at the end of the room facing th CR so I want that zone live but with a good sound, and I want the treatment not to take much space on the sidewalls since it´s already little space....can you guys help me suggesting the treatment for the LR? Thanks again! JP
Is this a pre-exsiting building>? the live room is a little cramped for a whole band but still better than what alot of us have. I can't tell but will you have to walk outside to go to the live room? Would a door work better where the window currently is?
Thank you for answering!, btw I love your studio. Well this will be built from the ground up but that's the maximum space I'll have, so both the doors from the CR and the LR will face a hallway right next to the house. That is for me good because I can have bigger doors to the LR and musicians can go out and take some air without work having to stop on the CR. The position of the doors might change though if that benefits the design as long as they stay on that side of the studio. I don't usually record whole bands so maybe a couple of guys at the same time in the room would be enough, actually if I can put a drum kit in there and make the room sound nice for it I would be more than satisfied :) Also I figured a bit more natural light on the LR would be better, so I thought of a double window on the back.

Well no, the roof of the house will extend above the hallway, the idea is to give that hall an indoor-outdoor feel...
ok, than I'm liking it! but this bit here (pic) seems a bit weird Have you thought about inside out walls, with or without slats? Then you won't have to waste space.

You mean the double walls with the rockwool facing each other? and then the inside wall with slats?. Yeah I think it'll save more space, but will I'll be sacrificing isolation from the noise from the highway?...let me know because it'll be a great problem solver :D
The STC will be the same. You just moving the plaster to the other side. Cover the wall with cloth, then add treatment/slats as needed.

sorry my puic says plaster on the outside, but take that as what ever your using...brick, fibro, timber, siding.....
so that could be something like this!, it also helps me with parallel walls since I can angle the whole wall without losing space for extra treatment! Now, what about the rest of the walls mate? what do you think that this rooms needs? many thanks!

From that picture it looks like your inner and outer walls are touching? I'mm sure it's just the picture. Also your walls seems really thick? What size stud are you going to use? With the angled wall, is it a 6 degree angle? YOu may not need to angle it as the nature of "inside out" walls stops standing waves.
yeah it's the picture, minimum distance will be around 2" right?. Well outer wall will be concrete blocks so it is around 15 to 20cm. Inner wall I guess it'll be around 15cm right?, do you suggest double layering of gybsum?. It'll be a 6degree angled wall but I didn't know about the inside-out walls absorbing standing waves, very interesting...
