This is just a bit of a query and a BIG Thank You... (and yeah... it's cross posted to a number of acoustic fora...)
If anyone can get the gist of this post to Knightfly, I would be ever so appreciative.
I originally "talked" to Knightfly, Rod, John Sayers, Avare, Eric Desart, Bert Stoltenborg, Paul Woodlock, Ido, Bob Golds, J. F. Oros, Ethan, and a WHOLE bunch of folks who probably don't even know me from Adam's house cat.
I asked all kinds of ignorant, inane, and typical "newb" pesterings about building a studio.
I started this mess about 6 or 7 years ago.
It really didn't take me long to figure out that I didn't stand a snowball's chance in hell of building a decent studio where I was living... I needed to move to build a proper studio.
Somehow, I finally convinced my wife, (a.k.a. TheBoss©) to sell our place and move to a beautiful little town here in central North Carolina. While we didn't move far, we've moved a wonderful world away.
I worked through several designs and would get to what I thought was "ready"... only to hit a coupla' snags. I FINALLY got Rod to look over my prints and asked him to make corrections and otherwise, help me to be sure I had good prints.
All this while, I was working on renovating the new house to make it "our" home.
Well... just over two years ago, I applied for my permits to build my dream studio.... my legacy... my life long dream.
Not only did Rod suggest corrections, he made MAJOR improvements to my design. He's also kept me from doing a lot of stoopid stuff and kept me on the right path, all these months.
I know that there are only a few of you who have even a clue who I am, or have even read any of my posts, here or elsewhere.
I chose to post my build thread at Recording.org, as opposed to here, for just a couple of reasons. The primary being because of the moderators over there... Steve (Knightfly) and Rod. These guys have always treated me (and the other posters there) with respect, and since there were no other build threads there... I figured... why not. That's not to say that this forum isn't a great forum... it is. I just felt that a place like Recording.org should have at least one build thread.
I've been pretty much on my own over there... just as I've pretty much been alone on the build.
I've had a lot of fun and experienced a lot of pain and sadness over the course of the build. I've lost my mother, dealt with my only surviving family member almost die from heart surgery and and friends turning out to not be friends at all. But I've made a lot of other friends who have pitched in, given me moral support and the strength to continue on. For that, one must be thankful and grateful.
Well... in about 24 hours, I'll be calling the Inspections Department to schedule my final inspection.
I don't know if I'll get my final inspection passed the 1st time through, or not... I suspect I won't, but at least I'll know what I need to do to get that all important final inspection... which then leads to the Fire Marshall's inspection and the holy grail of a studio build... the Certificate of Occupancy.
I really just wanted to take a minute to catch my breath, and while it was on my mind.... say "Thank you" to everyone who has had a part in guiding me along this road to insanity... especially Rod and Steve.
Thank you, I couldn't have done it without you.
Knightfly/Rod/et al... kudos and thanx!

great post :)
(and yeah, I miss Steve too...)
Thanks Ro... I wouldn't zackly call it a great post... maybe more of a rambling thank you card?!?... :D
At any rate...
It's been an insane few days here...
I passed the final inspection the first go around, as the inspectors know that I WILL take care of the one issue I have left... this is really just moving some dirt against the foundation. It's not much work, but the ground is SOOOO saturated from all the rain, that there's not hardly any construction or landscaping work going on right now... and it might very well be spring before the ground is dry enough to drop a dumptruck load of soil in and get it level.
Two or three days later, I called for a Low Voltage wiring inspection... albeit unnecessary, as it was already done, but I complied with the wishes of the inspectors.. better safe than sorry, right?
Then, two days later, I called the fire marshal's office to schedule their inspection. They actually had time to schedule it THAT day... so.. with passing that inspection, my "official" construction is complete and I am now legally ablle to occupy the building and operate as a business!!
WOOOOOO HOOOOO!
Except... (ain't there always some damned detail?!?) that there still a bit of trim and cosmetic work to be finished.... along with the console desk, producer's desk and some speaker stands left to be built.
Once I get the console desk built, I'll post the build in a thread over here... hopefully editing out most of the rantin' and cussin'.... :)
So far, the build is into day 3, but shouldn't take much longer than another couple of days to where the desk is at least 99% functional.
Which means, that maybe.... just maybe... I might actually be able to make some music in the studio on Christmas Day!!
I'll still have gobo's to make, and a piano to get tuned and serviced, but we'll be able to at least make some noise in there soon!!
Again, a great big thanks to everyone here who's had anything to do with this insanity...
Wishing all of you kind folks, the very happiest of wishes for the Holiday Season...
(quite)Mad Max
Good to read you passed inspections!
Lez get bussy now :)
