What technique would be best for constructing a vocal booth in the corner of an existing room? The corner has one outside and one inside wall with a concrete slab floor. The ceiling is about twelve feet. I'd like to have a window as well. Also, I would greatly appreciate it if anyone could point me toward somewhere I can learn the basics of soundproof construction.
Hi Jason. The link below to a sticky thread on this site should help a lot viewtopic.php?p=51632 If i was you i would try to be a bit more specific with questions, accoustic building is a huge subject with a million answers to every question, folks here like to help but cant answer loose random questions in any kind of relevant way, they need specifics!! and pics and plans too. get a hold of google sketchup program and start drawing a plan of what you want to build then watch the experts around the site queue up to criticise and condem !!! :D (and also point in the right direction!) I am just a beginner here and halfway through my build, so i probably will not be of so much help to you, but in the board index for the site you will find sticky threads for just about every kinda concievable building question you might have and then some!! My advice is to slow down, in order to build well acoustically one needs to understand the concepts involved, rushing in will be an expensive error that you will regret. My build is already well past my initial timeframe set out but its only 50% complete, !!!!! but i know pretty much for sure when its finished it will improve all the areas i set out to improve and work as i had planned it to work. :D Enjoy the process and Jah bless the work. peace df

That's how I wound up here... Thanks for the reply Finn. I created a rough sketch with guesstimate dimensions as a starting point: The two back walls are exterior. Will these work for the booth or do we need to build it completely freestanding? The studio is located in the country so the exterior is pretty quiet. As for take it slow, I hear you. But unfortunately I'm not in charge of this build. Without getting into details, this thing is going to be built by this coming Saturday right or wrong. The guys are absolutely open to design input from me as long as it gets built by Saturday. The link you posted seems like a great place to start filling my head. Also we're probably going to have to wait on the ventilation system. Is that something that will be much harder to retrofit than it would have been to install during construction?
Can you make one of the wall lengths different? 8 x 8 is not a good starting point. Also the tight corners are an un-usable space, why not try a shape like this.

Well then Jason do yourself a favor and click the link in my signature file...please. And when you tire from that click http://www.buildthisroom.com After you do that...buy some books...I can suggest many or as few as you think you need :)
Great! Thanks for the spoon feeding. I'm a new dad so the only time I can research this stuff is very late at night when my synapses aren't firing correctly. I searched for exactly the link in your sig and didn't find it. Thanks again. Hopefully I'll be back soon with some more informed questions.
