I am from Sydney, Australia and I am currently in the design phase in my attempt to convert my garage into a home studio. I am working on a pretty tight budget of $A 2000-3000 and I am hoping on getting some help with the construction from my carpenter friends.
The dimensions of my garage is 2.4 m (wide) x 5.2 m (length) x 2.1 m (height).
The floor of the garage is a concrete slab. I am wanting to put in a timber floating floor on top of the slab. I am researching materials for the timber floor.
I am going to subdivide the garage into two small rooms. One which I will use as a control (2.4m x 3.4m x 2.1m) and a vocal booth (2.4m x 1.8m x 2.1m). I would like to build the floating floor first and then put up the stud wall to divide these two rooms on top of the floor.
My questions are:
1. Is there much difference in acoustic properties between timber veneer and solid timber floors?
2. If so, what type of timber gives the best properties?
I visited my local hardware store and they suggested solid oak timber flooring but I would be extremely grateful for anyones help or suggestions.
Thanks,
Phil.
