Ok, I've read Rod's book, and for whatever reason, I keep missing what latches he's used. I've searched the forum, but most people use closers and a magnetic weather stripping, which in my situation I decided not to use for financial constraints. I THOUGHT of using a fridge style surface door latch on the inside, however realized today that if someone (like me or the wife) closes the door and no one is in there, there will be no way to open it. So, here's pics of my door and I'd like to have some recommendations on how best to latch it snugly. please help
giz...... I actually use deadbolts.......... the type with a thumb latch inside - with all of the trim going on the door /frame this will require a deeper than normal deadbolt. Typical backset for deadbolts are either 2 3/8" or 2 3/4" (inside/outside respectively) this just does not work - Schlage makes a 5" backset deadbolt (Schlage 5" Backset B/BA300-Series Deadbolt) that works perfectly. Do not worry bout the thru penetration of the door - you have to do this somehow - just keep the bores as tight as you can......... Rod
Thanks rod. Where would one find those special sized deadbolts.
ummm Giz, take what I printed above and google it - you'll find plenty of places to buy them...... Rod
I meant to say... since the 5" Backset B/BA300-Series Deadbolt isn't an item carried at lowes/homepot... is there another local avenue I can pursue? I'd like to get it locally if possible.
Check with local door/hardware providers in your area - any one of them should be able to der this for you..... Rod
