Hi, I don't think that anyone is able to give you an universally valid statement on those questions. If you have a lot of money and can use very heavy materials u can save space for your walls. If you have a lot of money fpr absorbing materials you can save space for absorbers. Space can be saved by knowledge on the principals of sound. But the effect of a lot of things will ever remain frequency dependent. You could put your choir into a lead box totally filled with rockwool and diffusors, leaving just 10cm in front of their eyes/mouth...maybe it would work for acoustics and for insulation..but it will not work for a particular percentage of the musicians. (Just one exsample) I'm not answering to tell you there is no answer, just to remember that it will be heavily dependent on preferences. As a matter of prinicple, you will have more problems to solve the smaller your room is. Anyhow, people can tell about their experiences with small rooms and even about possibities to avoid some of their problems.
