Hello! First time posting here although I have been reading for a while now. First off, I apologize if you see this same post on multiple forums. I am ready to build and could use as much advice as possible from all different angles. A handful of friends and myself just got the keys to a 2100 sq. ft. studio space in an old historic building located in Milwaukee. Monthly rent= $750.00 The purpose of this space is a combination of audio & video production. The larger area of the studio will have a huge green screen installed and be used for video and prop building. The audio area that I will construct will be used to track bands live: drums, guitars and bass. I need your help designing the most efficient space possible for what I have to work with. The total square footage of my area is roughly 432, however, the wall marked with a star can be moved outward 2 or 3 feet or so. Here are the plans with measurements that I took last night:

First thing I want to do is build a floating drum room with enough area for the drummer and 2 or 3 others to play along with while tracking (I will most likely build isolation cabinets for guitar amps and put them outside the studio area). I also want to build a vocal booth and a control room. The control room doesn't need to float or be ultra sound proof, just good acoustics. I already about 18 6" thick bass traps I build a few months ago. If you look at the plan above you will see 4 windows on the right hand side and one of them marked with "fire escape". Most likely, I cannot cover this area up for safety and fire code reasons. The ceilings are 12' tall but there is a sprinkler system. The sprinkler heads are just inches from the ceiling but the sprinkler pipes give me about 8' 6" to work with. Here are a few photos of my room: and here is the whole album of the entire unit: http://picasaweb.google.com/statictrash ... tressSuite
Sounds like you have your work cut out for you. However, if you want the free-of-charge wisdom of the experts who hang out here, I suggest you do your homework and post according to the instruction given at the top of the forum(s). My first thought though; soundproof the controlroom while you're at it. If you plan on using it alongside other people, consider the fact that they might want to listen at some extreme levels, at some awkward times of day. Just a thought. Oh, and there seems to be something wrong with the pic of your plans. It's not showing for me anyway.
