I'm wondering from everyone's experience what would be the overall cost of constructing a rather large space from scratch...say, 40' X 50', not counting the cost of land and recording gear. I know that labor is a factor but I don't have any construction experience.
For a large space, would it necessarily cost a lot more? I know more materials would be needed for filling it up but a large space would be necessary for the acoustics. Any ideas

You have asked for this twice now..
Depending on your location, I would say allow $140-$150/sq ft is about average.
Quarter Mil should be enough shouldn't it?
Only if you intend to make $125k from the studio... (From the old adage of; "How do you make a million bucks with a recording studio???............ Start with 2 million!"Quarter Mil should be enough shouldn't it?
