Hey guys I have this space that has become available to me, so im going to build a studio in it... Goal - to get a tracking room, control room and maybe a vocal/amp room. Location - Kansas City, MO Purpose - grown out of my basement studio, need a bigger space Loudness - going to be tracking live drums and amps Surroundings - on one side is a house that my buddy lives in and on the other side is a huge open field Budget - trying to keep it around 10,000 Room size - 25'x23' Room height - 8' 5" Walls - regular wood studs and sheetrock Floor - concrete slab I have drawn up some ideas in sketchup.... I cant touch the part with the white couch, I get all the space shown in the pictures (the wood floors in the shechup pictures) I have upload a blank layout of the studio if you guys have any idea that would be great... I am going to create walls over the windows so where the windows are in the model is not important. thanks, aaron

"I am going to create walls over the windows so where the windows are in the model is not important. " When you say "walls over the windows" does that mean "window plugs" or does that mean you are going to act like the windows are good enough and build your wall, essentially hiding the fact that this window(s) is a hole in your exterior isolation?
im going to build a room inside the room so im going to frame over the windows..
Thats not a good idea

wow, that really helps me out...
:) Didn't help me much either!
If you are going to leave the windows as they are now, then you are wasting your money on building everything. Lets put it this way, your windows have a very low isolation value, so see them like holes on your walls, so there is not sense about doing a room in a room build when you have holes in the OUTER leaf. You need to ideally seal them with the same mass of your walls, so if you have concrete or brickwalls, then brick wall them.
Bam! Good idea!
ok that helped, thanks any ideas on the layout?
All of your 3 ideas seem to have the inner leads touching the outer leaf. am i right? Also. you need to build a second leaf that is missing towards the relax room. That leaf should be coupled to the existing outer leaf. As well, you need another leafs between small rooms in order to have a full 2 leaf MSM system on your studio For your proposed layout it should be like this But I should suggest digging more into this forum , there are several layouts for square rooms. For instance, you could put the contol room in the south-right corner

I have 2" between outer wall and the inner wall. Thanks for the draw up. I'll look around the site for more ideas.
