Hey, I was wondering if any body uses hinged doors that cover the door cavity (creating isolation by sealing the door over the hole and not inside the hole).
.
Perhaps using some type of mechanical clamp style handle as seen on some high end refridgerators, some watertight boat doors/hatches (and space ship hatches? seen in the movies and on the news...) that create a tight seal between the door and the wall.
.
I thought that this may be a better way to achieve a higher level of isolation for those of us working off a tight budget and who can not afford to buy expensive isolation door as found in high end pro studios.

Hey, this may sound like a mad idea.
However, I wonder if it would be possible to pick up old Smeg refrigerator doors and adapt them to be used as doorway cover doors?
Perhaps after covering the door with your choice of material for desired effect on the studio environment.
Or, perhaps we can learn by this type of design and make our own doorway covering door from our own choice of material (and seals).
Perhaps this type of door with a sealing lock and wall seal exists in another format that may be available second hand on ebay or somewhere. Just an idea really. More research needed I guess.
Magnetic seals are not uncommon in discussion about doors.
But developing some type of latching that locks from the inside of the room and no one can open the door from the outside of the room is never a good idea.
Used to you could get an entry door lock, what is now referred to as a suicide lock, that was keyed on both sides of the door...inside and out.
On the first look it seems like a good idea, unless the house is on fire, you are inside and the key is no where to be found.
Hope that helps ya in some way.
sure, thanks for the advise.
Details that i have not thought about.
I guess more thought needs to be put on the subject.
Just shows you, that forums can be a really good place to get feed back as people who have much more experience/knowledge/skill/some times intelligence can give vital input and insight into matters that you may be searching for answers to.
Hey, thanks.
You answer may very well have saved my life.
:-)
Not too keen on the idea of suicide,
not even in the studio.
I wouldn't even like my ex-wife to either.
:-)
i thought that perhaps it would still be possible to make absorber door covers that are fitted with hinges on one side and spring loaded claw latches on the other side.
That squish the door covers over the doors in order to make a seal.
I thought that this would be much safer as well as in a real emergency, you could always do a Mr. T karate kick and break open the door cover.
Thats if the person inside can not or is incapable of opening the latches.
:-)
This type of door cover may allow for a slightly higher level of isolation for those on a low budget.
