Hello everybody,
This is my first post and I'm trying my best to follow all the directions!
Overview:
I've just bought a house. The basement is all mine. 8) It has a poured concrete foundation, 92" tall x 8" thick. I need to build a booth mainly to cut vocals and acoustic guitars (keep sound out of the booth) but also be able to contain the sound of electric guitars (100w Marshall's). I have neighbors about 15' left and right of me, and I would like them to not know what I do down here...
I have been looking into replicating a vocal booth (namely: Abbey Road, Studio Three). I know I wouldn't be able to do it exactly like abbey road, but I can get the wall dimensions and angles right (floor plans are on their website). The ceiling would be a compromise, mostly because I don't know how high the actual one is and I'm pretty sure it's higher than my basement ceiling. It's a wacky shape with 7 walls, one window and a door. No parallel walls. Also, I'm unsure of how big the window is and how the door fits in.
Budget:
I can put small amounts of money ($250 or so) every month for as long as necessary, so it will be slow, but at least I can do it the right way!
Questions:
Has anyone ever tried something like this? and if so, what were your results?
Are there any downsides to this as opposed to using a "normal" plan?
I've attached a quick sketch of the dimensions I made from the abbey road booth.
I thank all of you for your time, this forum is amazing! And I'm sure you'll all let me know if I've left something out....
Thanks!
-Chris
Replicating famous studio rooms (in your basement...)

I think your logic is flawed in wanting to mimic the booth design from Abbey Road. If Abbey Road had your ceiling height to work with, then the design for their booth would probably be different. I think it's better to work at getting the best out of the space that you have.
I agree that there are probably many other design options for the space I have, but I want to know if this shape will even work. Is ceiling height the only factor is determining the shape of a room?
