Hello All,
Is floating a floor in a conversion of an existing garage with a concrete slab used for just keeping bass in or does it also contribute to keeping sound out? ie, plane noise from the local small airport.
I can't figure out whether to float it or not. i will be doing mostly recording of orchestral instruments etc for film scores. Not alot of Rock and heavy bass. But sometimes will be.
My main concern is keeping the sound out of the live room and not in.
I'm searching on the forum and have purchased Rod Bible but can't seem to find the anwer.
I know this is a general question and hope i don't get too beat up for not offering more info.
Thanks in advance,

Once we had a great sticky about this very question... it's been unglued and lost in the process. Find and enjoy.

There is a lot of good information in the linked-post for someone who may have real concerns. A plane, large or small, is over your head radiating noise downward so the roof/ceiling is an important place to keep in mind while gathering information on how to best approach your build.
There are ways around the floating floor with concrete dilemma but you will have to educate yourself on those, once you can determine what it is you are up against and what may be the best use of materials and practice to help in your isolation.
Great,
Thanks for the link.
I'll check it out.
