Hey all...it's been a while...
My goal is to have a recording space at my home...(called the stable) and a control room facility on wheels...(the airstream we call Ronnie). While I have a PT/HD rig one of my desires is to get as close to an analog sound as I can before I us PT as my editing and mastering tool. Also I want engineers to be comfortable with the rig. I have a website at http://www.thezenman.com with lots of pictures.
I have done a preliminary drawing of these two projects which I am posting as a jpg for now. At this time I only use VISIO as my drawing program...the picture is done to a scale of 1/4"=1'. I am very experienced at building, electrical, some electronics as far as patch bays etc. go, and my years as a player in the studio. I use pro tools HD with a GHOST front end. I know there are many consoles better that my old GHOST. I would rather spend on outboard pre's and gear than another console.
To make sure I hit all the points....
I am in Wakefield Quebec Canada. I have invested 8K CDN so far and would like to come in with another 5-10K.
Airstream is 31'X8'X8' with no corners...why I chose it. The horse trailer is 20'X8'X8'. Looks kinda funky and both these units have a good story. Every one needs a good story...
Although the drawing is conceptual I hope it will at least get me some feedback especially in the area of acoustic treatment. I hope my ideas are understandable. I am at the demolition stage so it is a good time to solicit comments in the areas of...
-do I need to float my floors?
-how do I handle the round corners of the Airstream related to bass traps? Will there be any bass issues in the Airstream? The end product Airstream will be pretty live so what are your comments on acoustic control?
-is 2 layers of inside drywall good for the recording room/s?
-will movable acoustic panels and movable bass traps do the trick?
-will I need resonators in both units?
The stable trailer will hopefully cover off live jam and ISO rooms at my location. Volumes could get loud. I am in the country so exterior noise is not too much of an issue except for the Wakefield steam trail which goes through my backyard twice a day on a schedule.
Not to confuse anyone...the horse trailer / box does not move from my property...the Airstream does. The Airstream could be parked outside a live club or backstage area of concert venue so noise bleed both ways need to be addressed I think. The windows of the Airstream could be a problem area.
In advance thanks for your feedback.
