Hey guys, I'm stuck in a situation where I mix pretty much in my live room. Building a wall is simply out of the budget at this point. I was looking into hanging acoustic blankets around my mix area to create some meager isolation from my live room. What materials/products do you all suggest. Or are acoustic blankets a hoax? Any help would be really appreciated, -Barrett
no they are not a hoax - people wrap a sheet of Owens Corning 703 insulation in a cloth bag and call it special scientifically designed acoustic device, so an acoustic blanket would be no different.
Hahah alright thanks. Are there any products you recommend? Or would I be better off wrapping the 703? Thanks, -Barrett
there's nothing to stop you from wrapping the 703 yourself. :)
I actually started research on the acoustic blankets heavily and said "SCREW IT, I'LL BUILD A WALL!!" I think I'll be much happier with the isolation and overall workflow. I think it might even be cheaper. The Audimute blankets were $485 for 504 sq feet!! Thanks so much for the Help John, -Barrett
It would be interesting to see how much the Harbor Freight moving blankets absorb in comparison. :)

Hang on a minute there. Hanging blankets can be okay as a poor man's sound absorber to tame echoes. But I doubt it will be of much use for sound isolation. --Ethan
