Hi again everyone, I have a large supply of glass which @ one point was used in an external vegetable glass house. The panes are 1/8" thick but I am not sure exactly what type of glass it is. I know it is definately not the plastic stuff that bends. Its proper glass of some sort... My question is, if I sandwich a couple of layers of this glass together to create a thickness of lets say 3/4" or more, can this be used as the glass in an acoustic window as per Rod's design in his book... Hope this makes sense Any thoughts would be very helpful regards hally :?:
How will you couple the pieces? I wonder if you could sell it to a glass recycler, get it melted down into thicker glass
It sound like what you have is greenhouse glass? - it's very thin and usually in 1' x 1' (30cm x 30cm) sizes.

Hi lilith, I was thinking I would sandwich a few together to a thickness which will be equivilient to the mass of the wall they are going into (3 layers of 1/2" drywall). I will build the wooden frame so the edges of the glass sit on some sort of rubber to cushion the glass against the timber. The glass will be essentially free standing and held in place by an oversized perimeter wood stop or trim...This outter leaf wall will not be experiencing any vibration from closing doors etc...

Yes John, it greenhouse glass but each pane is 1/8" thick and about 2' x 3', do u reckon I could use it for my proposed installation? The only reason I am considering putting a widow in this live room is to allow some natural light into the space, the inner leaf window will be constructed with glass blocks... thanks hally
I don't see why not considering the application.
