Hi,
I am facing a situation where I cannot remove my carpeted floors, but I would like to record acoustic guitar. I was wondering if anyone has ever tried laying out large plywood boards under the microphone while recording - say 6'x6' area.
My room is very large - 23'9" x 16'1" x 11'2". It is covered with carpet. I have many non-reflective bass traps. Would this approach work to give my room a better acoustic space for recording guitar?
Thanks for the help.

yes - that works fine :)
Great :) Are there any tips on placement? I am assuming, for instance, that its probably best to avoid putting the reflective surface where it can cause direct reflections from source to microphone. Is this correct?
Jake - that's another story ;)
Ok, I currently have the plywood laid under me while I play acoustic guitar. Both me and the mic are sitting in the middle of the large plywood sheets (together about 8'x8'). The walls in this room are drywall with a lot of very large bookshelves/cabinets.
My questions are:
1. Should I position the mic or me close to a wall, close to a bookshelf, or avoid them both? I know they could contribute to liveness but wouldn't they also cause dramatic phase reflections?
2. Should I stay away from the bass traps when recording acoustic guitar? I know they help frequency response but they kill liveness. Should I even keep them in the room?
Thanks for the help!
