Well I've finished adding 2 layers of 5/8 up between the ceiling joists. I am only building my contol room at the moment and will use it for tracking also.
Anybody planning on doing this it takes about 1 1/2 - 2 hours per joist to add the two layers and caulk 'em for a 13.5 foot length. Well thats what it took me by myself and I thought I was working at a good pace.
Tomorrow I'll be framing the inner walls. Still need no figure out what to do for the acoustic sway braces. I'll be making some calls tomorrow.

edit: not sure why this pic is here twice VVVVVVVVVV
You can install lumber into this void that will do what you need.here's where i can't easily add the beef. ^^^^^^^^^^^^
yeah i'll give some lumber to the void tomorrow. or maybe tonight. if you know what im sayin.
nice job, but urhm. you also caulked between 2 pieces of GB ? That's not necessary. you can use mud. but caulk will do to, sure. just a matter of taste. the perimeters, however, should be caulked. As you did.
congratulations on the beef-up :)
Are you hitting on me?yeah i'll give some lumber to the void tomorrow. or maybe tonight. if you know what im sayin.
So here my attempt at a sway brace.
Two pieces of 2x4 with neoprene pad glued between them using PL Premium and taped while drying.
good? bad? ugly?
lol, no. just a lil drunken lumber joke. Are you hitting on me?yeah i'll give some lumber to the void tomorrow. or maybe tonight. if you know what im sayin.

Looks like those braces won't cut it. But I'm just a mere idiot who's watching to much B&B :)Good questions! No so sure about "bad" and "ugly", but I doubt that those will work "good". I have a feeling that they will flank, since it looks like you didn't do any calculations of testing on the neoprene, to find out if it will over-compress or not compress sufficiently to work as a spring. The chance that the math worked out perfectly by pure chance, is pretty remote. I guess the thing to do is to suspend that contraption in the air somehow, maybe from strings, then tap one piece of wood with a hammer while gently touching the other with your fingertips. If you feel any vibration at all, then it isn't decoupling. I have to admit that I doubt it will work.good? bad? ugly?
Well its been a while, im very close to being done. From my design above I am only doing the control room and will use its as a one room studio for the time being. The soundproofing is finally done. I did 2 layers of 5/8 room within a room design using my home made "isolation sway braces" to secure the inner leaf to the outer leaf. A total of 103 sheets of dry wall for the room. im guessing about 50 large tubes of acoustical sealant and an estimated 30 bags of safe and sound rock wool (including acoustical treatment).
I am pretty happy with the noise reduction, With a full rock band pounding, watching TV in the living room directly above is no problem, and outside at 2 am i struggle to hear any noise at all.
I am currently doing the room treatment. here's some pics.
I will be putting slats on the angled walls to the left and right of the mix position (approx. where the bag of insulation is).
Should i also put slats on the front wall and front corner bass traps??
Wow
Thats a lot of wool
That's what she said!!!
fabric is on , slats are going on, i'm getting excited.
