I just took some time to try to fine tune my control room a little further. I got my favorite recording, ran it through my console and I was noticing a muddy harshness at medium to high volumes. So I went to the EQ to find the problem and I'm almost positive that it's the 1-1.5k range. Do you guys know of any tools/software that could give me a general idea of where this peak/nasty reflection is coming from?
Thanks,
-Barrett
Getting Rid of A Known Frequency in my CR

The only way to know for sure is to measure your speakers in your room. This is not trivial! Especially above maybe 500 Hz. Moving the microphone even an inch or two can change the response you measured by a lot. So then what? :D
These are the programs I recommend:
ETF, Windows, $150
FuzzMeasure, Mac, $150
Room EQ Wizard, Windows and Linux, Freeware
This article explains how I use ETF, but the principles apply to all such programs.

Thanks Ethan! I'm just trying to get my control room under control :D I'll definitely check out that freeware and see if some problems can be corrected. I just finished ridding my room of flutter echos for the most part and the tuning is next so this is only phase 2!
Thanks again,

"muddy harshness"
thats a very broad statement!
you might find there is a few problems going on there.
post the results from one of the program.
