Transition Freq

Hi, what is the transition freq from space to semi-space when measuring a loudspeaker in a box? I wonder what does it mean and how it could affect the freq response of a loudspeaker depending of the box size. I also like to know what the front panel diffraction can affect the freq resp. Thanx
