Hello All.
I am taking over the lease on an existing commercial studio. Unfortunately, whoever designed this place didn't have a clue. The control room is nearly square, and the walls are completely parallel. I've been studying acoustics on and off for many years, and I have some ideas on how to get started treating this room, but I'm looking for input from some of the knowledgeable folks on this forum. I have wood working skills, and money to put into building new treatments, and I'm not attached to the layout depicted in my drawings/model. The model is accurate to within 0.5". I'm only concerned about dealing with the control room at this point, so I've only modeled that much so far (well, the iso booth is shown too).
Huh. I just tried to post the .skp file, but apparently it's too big(?). How does everyone else get around the 500kb limit when posting their .skp files?
Well, here's a couple of jpegs of the room exported out of Sketchup®. Unfortunately, you can't really read the dimensions, but width is 16', length is 17'10", and the vaulted ceiling goes from 7.5' up to 9' in the middle.
I'd like to try and keep the room somewhat live, or at least not dead. Obviously, my goal is to create an RFZ and accurate low end. I have been engineering for about 20 years, and have been really focusing on mixing for the last several years.
I have some treatments I'll be pulling out of my existing studio including:
• RPG built QRD "diffractals". Enough to cover 32 square feet. These QRDs are 2'x2', and I have 8 of them.
• DIY QRDs. Enough to cover 32 square feet. I built these QRDs myself. They are 2'x4', and I have 4 of them.
• 30 sheets of OC703, 2'x4'x2". These are currently place into wooden frames and covered with fabric (i.e. broadband absorbers). I have no problems with ditching the frames/fabric and cutting these up to make "Super-Chunks", or perhaps using them in some kind of hanger style bass trap.
• 4 Chris Pelonis designed corner traps. I bought these used and don't know a whole lot about them other than they are some type of Helmholtz style trap. They are very beautiful, triangular shaped, and stand about 7 feet tall.
• A pile of R13 bats. I believe are 16" width. They are paper faced on one side.
Much thanks to all for any input.
Cheers!
