If the space between a double stud wall is 1" and NO bigger, is it worth it since so much overall width is sacrificed?
I understand staggered studs are at such a cost that to upgrade to double stud is better cost effective.
But is 1" airspace enough?
Quick Question...

That depends on how the walls are built. Assuming they are built with 2x4 studs,: If they are both built inside-out, that implies the entire air gap between the two leaves is 1", and in that case, no it probably isn't worth it. A 1" air gap isn't very useful. But if your walls are both built normally, then a 1" gap between the FRAMES implies an air gap of around 8" between the LEAVES, and that is most definitely worth it! 8 inches of air gap is very good. Even if you have one "inside-out" wall and one "normal", that still gives you nearly 5" or air gap, which is quite decent. - Stuart -If the space between a double stud wall is 1" and NO bigger, is it worth it since so much overall width is sacrificed?
Ahhh yesss. :D
Like any simple topic here, I've made a mess out of it and clearly oversaw that it indeed will be an 8" space.
I am building normal walls, frames in drywall out. Thanks for the quick answer.
You have a good general answer. How much isolation do you need? That will help answer your circumstance. The fact that they are two independent wall frames is more important than the air space. Staggered studs are still jointed top and bottom.
