I was thinking of using 1x4 pine for my resonator slots for many reasons: they have the thickness and size I want , plus I will only make a few cuts. Also, stained they look beautiful Instead of buying plywood or other wood and having to cut it for the right slot width.. Good?
fine - they also look nice with a lime wash finish.
lime wash finish.
This might be a dumb question, but what is a "lime wash finish"? And what does it look like? - Stuart -
Lime wash Stu is basically a varnish with white lime added - the lime gets trapped in the wood grain and emphasises it. Usually pine goes a yellowy colour when varnished, with lime wash it stays the original light colour. An experienced painter will make his own but you can buy it already made up.
I think I'll go for a brown varnish colour. I don't wanna screw it up. Unless I ask home depot for a similar varnish, but i'm pretty sure when i translate "limewash" to spanish they will look at me like " ". maybe a spanish user knows the translation?
A few other names for this same process are whitewashing or pickling.
Thanks John! I'd never heard of that technique before. Probably because painting is not my favorite occupation! But it sounds like something worth considering.

I wouldn't ignore such universal advice so quickly. :)

I managed to browse all 96 types of varnish at homedepot website  and there isnt such a varnish..... only natural, maple, brown and light brown... There is also tints for wood in different colors.
