hey guys, its been awhile since I've posted. Studio is running pretty good these days but its time to finish it off. The main things that needs doing is my ISO booth. I've been holding off on this one because I just wasn't sure whether I wanted to make it completely dead or leave it a little open. Anyway... I'm thinking of just padding it up and making it dead. I've already put in a false ceiling which is essentially just a layer of rockwool and a layer of tontine in a material covered frame. I was essentailly thinking of framing up the entire brick wall putting rockwool/tontine in the frame and then putting material over it. What I'm curious about though is what's going to happen if I just batt up ONE wall as opposed to doing half and half as I have seen people recommend in the past. The main reason for treating the brick wall is.. well.. ease. It doesn't have any doors, windows or architraves on it, unlike the adjacent wall. The brick wall is about 4.3meters long and 2.6 high (up to the false ceiling). thanks guys Matt

sorry image is small.. i will re upload later tonight when I have time thanks M
ahhhh... cheers
How does it sound? What does the ceiling look like, can you post a picture? What are the other walls made of? I don't like the sound "dead" the word it's self isn't very pleasant either. I would (without hearing the room) build four 80cmx120cm wall panels and hang them on the brick wall. then they could be removed if you wanted a bright guitar sound.
The room has a really undesirable sound (when there is nothing lying around on the walls in there hehe). It has a really short reverb time with probably a couple of standing waves floating around. I dont think I made the angles big enough on the smaller walls. I think they're about 8 degress. The wall to the right (in the picture) is Brick and all other walls are 16mm Gyprock. The wall to the left has a 1500x1000 window and an 900x2100 door. I did build a whole bunch of 1350x500 frames up to put rockwool batts in. I've got about 10 of them. Main reason I didn't end up using them was because I was concerned about the areas that weren't covered by them and also... wasn't sure quite how to space them.
Matt - take a look at the booth at Left Bank. http://johnlsayers.com/Studio/Mainpage/MP-Leftbank.htm it's a small room (like yours) yet I was talking with Amirel a couple of weeks ago and he commented that he often puts drums in there. The vocals recorded in the room are right in your face. The room treatment is two walls being glass doors, one wall is cloth over 703 with a window, and one wall is a slot resonator and carpet floor. BUT the ceiling is chock full of hangers down to just above door height. When you talk in there it's bright and short. There's no boom from the low end, it's clean.
hey John! thanks for reply! I've seen this studio design stuff before.. its very cool. do you have any more info on the design of the booth as I find it a little hard to follow on the Building Diary website. thanks mate M
