Hello,
let me know if im being a worry wort or not.....
I am installing Auralex's RC-8 on my 15' by 15' ceiling.
Joices are 24" oc
there will be 2 layers of drywall (5/8ths and 1/2)
the product descripting on Auralex's site mentions 24" on center even for the ceiling with two layers of drywall.
I absolutely don't want to think about the remote possibility about a cave in ever.
kind of a music making buzzkill
any opinions on this, as ive heard a few different versions out there,
such as
"16"oc is throwing money away and degrading your sound benefits."
or this...
"I would never even think of spacing my RC 24" oc"
Help!
thanks everyone
Jason

Hmm, i'm doing 24oc on my ceiling and I've heard most new houses in Aust are using this method.
I am however installing the plasterboard up top, no RC.
If the supplier of the Auralex "OK's" the construction ( I assume your doing the work yourself)
Then you have to trust them. Can you post the spec's of the RC.
Have you also worked out your dead and live weights?
I think there is a useful graph in here some where with the plasterboard weights.
"RC-8 should be installed horizontally at the bottom and top of your wall, then every 2' or less in between. Up to (2) layers of 5/8" drywall and a layer of SheetBlok may be hung on RC-8, even on a ceiling"
No data on webs site though?
thats exactly what I was going to post, your right , no specs, or detailed explanation, as you are also correct, i am installing myself. Ive actually searched the internet and cant find any specifics, I live in seattle wa, plaster board is the same as sheetrock? I feel pretty confident about installing myself, I just have this shadow of a doubt lingering. are you at the beginning of your rc install? thanks"RC-8 should be installed horizontally at the bottom and top of your wall, then every 2' or less in between.
