Hey guys, I'm In contract to buy a house and it has an ok sized basement where i think i can do drums however my control room will be 2 floors up. Do you think it's possible/safe to run a snake through the ac duct in my control down to the basement? Do you think the cable will get to hot from the heat in the winter? --Justin
hi, my 1st reaction was "WHAT ARE YOU CRAZY!!!" but then I think I should give it a chance. Temperature- So ,I'm guessing that your duct would/could go from extreme cold to hot at a flick of a switch. Now that shouldn't affect good quality, road worthy cables. At least not for a few years. You can imagine the looms that get dragged around touring music festivals. Moisture- Is there moisture in your ducts now? the cables are sealed so water isn't an issue, but what happens at the lower end. What will stop the drips snaking down the cable into your room. Noise- Is sound proofing an issue? Will you have silencers added to your ducts? Cause your drums will be as loud in your control as the live room without them. Access- Can you just run the snake next too the duct? there must be space. Any way, after all that I personallly wouldn't do it. Even at low voltage, I doubt the building inspectors would like it. lil
:? Uhm. I wouldn't do that as well. I bet you have MANY other options to send your snake cable. You could run it drilling a hole btw rooms, or outside rooms with a small plastic duct.
Not really sure what i'm gonna do yet. I mean technically i could run it dow 2 flights of stairs and through a living room and dining room but that is not really a great idea. I'll try to figure something out. --Justin
Why not. Seems okay to me. Sure, there's some practical problems. but heck, that's live. Running snakes 2 stories up is the least of your problems. Visibility is another.. but why not!
