I love this site and its wealth of information. In the interest of getting some opinions, and whatnot I will present you with my project. May 1st I moved into a space in downtown San Francisco. I had been looking for some and now, rents have been taking a nosedive and the stars were aligned . In april a friend presented me with a 760 sqft corner basement space surrounded by more than a foot of concrete on one wall and the 12ft ceiling. During the walk through the spl meeter was reading 36dbs Which seemed like an acceptable starting point.

Interesting how it seems like the work so far did'nt take three months when i post it all at once. I am doing the work by myself so its slow going.

In the middle of the construction the same friend who found the space was scouring craigslist and located a bunch of quietrock, (I know, I know you hate the stuff) for sale which had been damaged by some unconcerned forklift driver. I called up my uncle and picked the stuff up. Heres what 200$ in 510 looks like.

And the fun continues my back hurts too and I've discovered that one of my best friends is a union electrician and willing to give me a hand when the time comes. The side effect of doing all of this work is that im loosing a bunch of weight and gaining some muscle, my GF diggs it. I was going to try to mount a sliding glass door into the wall for a wind but that turned out to be a terrible idea. The door sucked too and after much thought I've decided to build it out and add a half inch of glass over a 1.5 inch space and build the edge of it like the super door.

nifty! hows' that mitter-saw working for ye? I'm currently looking into buying one... I'm a big sucker for tools and machines.. gotta have one!
"quietrock, (I know, I know you hate the stuff) " Price was always the negotiating point for me, but I would pay what you paid for it all day long! Brien
Yep I couldn't believe my luck. If anyone has any tops on minimizing the glass reflections I would love to hear them.
What was wrong with the window? You might need a lintle to stop bowing and possibly cracking the glass.
I want to minimize any flutter or distortion from the glass. As far as the lintel i have upgraded things. -s
Its my idea or those new walls are attached to the existing ceiling??
Yep the existing 15-12" slab, but the only time I've ever heard anything coming thru it is when they delivered the new vending machines upstairs. This was a conscious choice to have my budget not exceed my need. Should this venture become even profitable enough to support itself I will cut out the existing rock remove a pane of glass and build an inner wall unattached. For now im only expecting something in the mid 40s for separation.
The details of the project compounded by being by myself are making this Shhhh.. Take for ever but here are some updates of the control room. I reinforced an anderson door with an extra half inch of glass over a 1.5 inch space, beefed up the windows 1/2 lami over 3/8 lami glass. I build frames for bass traps and treatment in my live room and control room. I filled the traps with rockwool 4inch firesafing 45min and fronted the whole thing with faced dense fiberglass and chickenwire to hold the whole thing in. I installed some clouds with lighting. I ordered the flooring yesterday and faced one wall in my live room with wood luan.

Here is a cross section of my door which appears to deliver an stc of about 45-49. I took a regular double pain french door added two layers of 1 inch stock beveled in an edge for another layer of 1/2" glass and finally faced the new side with oak. the whole thing is just shy of 4 inches now. I cant get the first two images upright if anyone has any advice. Well thats where Im at. Any observations advice would be appreciated.
