Some guy at a store suggested that these genie clips made a staggered stud wall redundant? Any one have any thoughts on 'genie clips'?

Thoughts on Genie clips?

i think those clips get you about 6-8db more isolation on the stc rating system. i couldn't find exact numbers for the difference between a standard wall framing (2x4, with a sheet of 5/8th on each side and the cavity filled with fibergalass) and the staggered wall. would you get more then 6-8 db? i'm not sure.
but for a few extra inches why not do independent walls? with that you get like a 20db increase from the standard wall mentioned above. a different league from the clips and you can always ad more mass to the inner and possibly outer wall later for even more iso.
imo (and i'm far from a pro) if you have the space independant walls are the way to go.
He's right - the genie clips are a quality RC clip if you use tham as suggested i.e. when you have a single stud wall frame.
Can anyone chime in please?
I just did my entire ceiling with genie clips 16" apart so not a lot of slack on the sheetrock...but I am now placing 3 layers of sheetrock 5/8" with green glue. I was thinking about doing the walls with genie clips or should I go with a double wall? And what would be the right amount of spacing since I don't know if what I did was too close together for the furring channel to react properly??
On the walls if I do end up going with the clips what would be the right amount of spacing 48" sideways? How about from floor up on an 8 foot high wall?
Read the instructions for your product...I know guys hate that, but when you are out of your element...ask for directions from the most qualified person ;)
