I have searched the forum and couldn't find out how to permanently block off a window. I had just planned to attach 2 layers of 5/8 drywall (with green glue in between the sheets) to the trim surrounding the window. And then calking around the outer edges. Would this be the best way to stop sound transmission through the window. or is there a better way? Thanks guys

Do you have to keep the actual window there for code or aesthetic purposes? If not, then I reckon the best way to "block it permanently" would be to just take it out completely, frame in the empty space, and finish it the exact same way as the rest of the wall is done, with the same number of layers of drywall, same studs, etc. - Stuart -
If you don't mind the window. just put some brickwalls !
Thanks guys, ya this is killing me because were building a wall at an angle over top of the whole wall, and I know we should remove the drywall on the existing wall because were creating a triple leaf system!
then don't make your angled wall a leaf by making it a slot resonator. If you add a window to the angled wall you can still have the isolation plus the natural light.
can you explain this slot resonator? sorry I'm so dumb lol
http://www.saecollege.de/reference_mate ... lindex.htm read up on Helmholtz Resonator. here's a couple of pics: The first shows a window with an angled wall added - this angled wall will become a slot resonator.

the next pic shows the insulation and cloth in place.

then the slots are added

Thanks man, this is pretty cool.
