Hello guys, long time reader, 1st time poster. (even tho i just signed up today :) ) Ill admit that I often get lost with alot of the more technical stuff, but i really enjoyed following the studio construction picture diaries, and the amount of great info on here. So the story is, I just moved into a new place, with a small room to set up in.. Im having terrible touble getting the right sound, to be honest. There is a noticeable lack bass where i sit.. which persists until i sit back quite far from the desk. the best i can get if i stand up a slight bit, with my head above the monitors, which of course is not ideal, while mixing. the dimensions are as follows: w: 2.24 m l: 3.3 m h: 2.44 m ive included some diagrams that ive generated using some of the tips on here. some important room features, are the roof pitches up slightly from left to right, about 4 or 5 cm. there is a big annoying rack of shelves at the back, and there is a window right at the front. i guess i would just like any pointers tips regarding making this room usuable. i prepared a diagram from the roommode calculator, and im going to try and figure out the best place to set up. does the diagram look correct? .. all help is greatly appreciated!! thanks rory

sorry i left out some other useful info: -The Monitors are sitting on 3 phonebooks each to raise them up. -They are at eye-level which is about 160-180cm and about 55cm from the wall. -The bass sounds nice at around, 200 - 240cm
Okay, that's a really small room. Small rooms need extra attention. First of all, do you have ANY acoustic absorbers in the room? That bookshelf cabin, can it be removed or even be re-used (stuff it with woll to make it an great absorber)
HOwdee!! Thanks for the reply Ro.. At the moment, I have some acoustic foam on the walls beside the monitors. I was also playing around with some duvets in the corners behind the monitors, but to no great avail. Im going to buld som broadband absorbers, and bass traps, but i waned to post here beofre i did anything, to get some advice. Regarding the shelving unit.. Its attached to the wall, and because its a rented house im not sure about removing it(although i could ask the landlord if need be). the shelf is kinda full of crap at the moment.. old monitors, some tools and some books etc.. i guess i could see what i could dowith it, maybe stick some duvets in there instead of where the bass trap should be?? thanks again for getting back to me cheers r
Adding (corner) absorbers is a very good plan. Especially in a small room you need basstraps. I'd suggest you put wool into the shelf/cabin. Just stuff it (don't over compress) and put a sheet of cloth in front. That way you'll end up with a big basstrap behind your mixing position, which is good. The monitors will beam right into it. Speaking of which, you should place your monitors at the right angels, height and distance. There's plenty of info on that on this forum. Place atleast two broadband on the side walls at first reflection points of your monitors. It doesn't have to be an expensive solution that way. Draw your plans into sketch-up if you will.
thnks again ro, sorry for the delay on reply, but ive still been moving stuff. ill look up some info on monitor placement. cheers
