I'm in the completion stages of finishing a small control room/studio 11' 5" x 10' 10" x 7'high. I was constrained by existing construction so I had to go with these dimensions. Anyway, I'm in a basement, I built a room within a room design - the new 2x4 stud walls and 6" ceiling joists were built 1" in from the existing walls. I have 2 layers of 5/8" drywall on the inside leaf and there was 1/2" drywall on the existing walls (outside leaf-no drywall in between, just two leafs.) I've caulked everything so it's air tight and very stuffy. One section of wall on the inside of the adjacent room (kitchen) has not yet been dry walled. I don't have the budget nor the access for an AC system but I need some sort of ventilation. So I was thinking of using in-line duct fans for this, one for supply and another for exhaust. Both fans would be within the wall connected to flex duct that terminate to grills inside the control room. Thus, the supply fan would get it's air from the kitchen and the exhaust would also output into the kitchen.. There's a window in the kitchen that I might be able to put a window ac unit in to cool down the air a little.
8" in-line duct fans cost me about $35 dollars-they're rated at 250cfm so both the budget and cfm are ok. However I have no idea if this will will work. Will the air pressure inside the studio remain stable? Of, course I'm worried about noise and will take precautions as much as I can. But is there something I'm missing or does anyone have any better solutions for a simple, inexpensive ventilation system for a small room like this?
