Hi all, I'm a complete newbie when it comes to acoustics so am looking for your valuable help in developing my studio. The studio itself is only tiny, about 3730 x 2150mm The height of the room is 2535mm by the way I'm looking for advice on where to put a desk and nearfields, plus any dampening that may be needed. I'm thinking about chucking out the current desk and getting a new one, that would go along B, and butt up against C (I get to see out of the window then!) Here's the diagram as it currently looks... http://joelmerrick.com/stuff/room_layout_joel.pdf Cheers in advance chaps!
Also, the stairs don't come out as much as they do on the diagram, if that matters?
Hi Joelio, and welcome. There is an announcement at the top of the forum about what to do to assure getting as many responses as possible. The announcement leads to this post (click here). Actually, several people, who are experts on this forum, will not reply if you don't do what is written in that post. Many others who are very helpful, will not reply out of respect for the moderators' wishes. Anyway, in a nutshell: Your room needs to be symmetrical, and your speakers should fire down the long axis, not across the short axis, so "C" would be the best location. Desk in the middle (not offset to one side), speakers on stands between the desk and the wall ideally, set at the corners of an equilateral triangle with your head being the third point. Speakers 1 to 2 m apart, 1.2m above the floor (roughly), acoustic axes intersecting at 60 degrees, roughly 20cm behind your head. Your head should then be roughly 38% of the distance between the front and back walls. What is that "thing" that sticks out of the wall at "D"? that is going to mess up your stereo image. You should also use SketchUp from Google to do your room layout. Much easier, and it's 3D. And its free! - Stuart -
