Silenseal - worth it?

For caulking around walls, etc... is the Green Glue Co. Silenseal product worth it? Or are there other acoustical sealants that you'd recommend that aren't quite as pricey? The USG handbook makes mention of a Sheetrock brand sealant, but I haven't found it anywhere. Just trying to start gathering materials.. adding mass to the subfloor above the studio space is the first step. "-)

And THEN some! It's a bit of a toss-up as to whether SilenSeal or OSI is the "better" product... The OSI is much stiffer and goes a LOT quicker. The SilenSeal is much thinner and goes a LOT slower and often needs to be applied a 2nd and 3rd time to fill a gap. The OSI, being much thicker, probably doesn't push into a gap as thoroughly as the SilenSeal, but I prefer working the OSI a LOT more... Thin viscosity fills 95-100% of any given gap, but the shrinkage factor is quite unexpected... where the OSI shrinkage is almost nil.
Is this the OSI stuff? http://www.osisealants.com/Products.asp ... nd-sealant I need to find out if I can get it locally - with shipping, the cheapest I can find it online is about $7 per tube (by the case).. Since I'm geographically not too far from you - which would you go with if you were starting now?
Man... tough question... I'd probably still use both, to be honest with ya'. I would probably use the SilenSeal at the exterior perimeters, where you're into rough framming through the first layers. You really need to be 100% confident that you have any gaps filled as best you possibly can. Then I'd move on to using the OSI for the inner layers... it goes so much faster! Not only that... but it would be a LOT cheaper, too! As far as finding the OSI... Toolup has it for $3.99... which doesn't appear to be that bad of a price. About the best price I'm finding for SilenSeal is $7.00/tube at case price. As far as other caulking... You GOTTA check out Speciality Products and Insulation. The guys are great here at my local office in Greensboro. I suggest going to the nearest warehouse to you, at least once before you order anything, and just wander around. They have just about anything you can imagine possible related to fire/flame and heat rated building materials materials. It's pretty amazing, actually.
Thanks.. I had planned to go down to SPI to check out some of the OC/Rockwool stuff when I got to that point. The problem with the $3.99 price at toolup.com - it becomes about $7 with shipping. A lot of this material seems to be worth it to DRIVE somewhere to get it, just to save on shipping (it's heavy!)
