Hello there,
Just a little question. I know the topic must sound a bit silly, as I´ve learned that perforated panels and pegboards are normally used as helmholz resonators.
Need to build some kind of moveable Gobos with broadband absorption. I really like the look of peforated wood. So I am asking If it is possible to build a broadband absorption panel with perforated wood on the front. I am planning to drill the holes (maybe with varying hole sizes if thats acoustically better) on myself to give it an individual look.
Somewhere I saw that wood will get acoustically transparent if it is perforated more than 50% of the surface.
Is this right ? Will there be disadvantages to a standart broadband absorber without a front panel (resonances or similar)

Using Pegboard for broadband absorption panels

Standard peg board would be to flimsy, I would have thought
What size room do you have? What type of room response have you got now?
The difference between a soft face absorber and a slat or panel type is the high frequency.
Do you need highs? Yes, you don't want a dead room.
but if you have too much atm then 50% or more "holes" would do.
It's hard to say not knowing more about your room. If your ratios are wrong and you have issues with outside noise or low ceilings...then go with the aesthetic reason. Make your studio look good, even if it doesn't sound good.
Transparent? compared to what? Total absorbtion or what the wall was? I think it's ok to work with trial and error...suck it and seeSomewhere I saw that wood will get acoustically transparent if it is perforated more than 50% of the surface.
