I was given about 40 sheets of 1/2 drywall which was left over from a jobsite and would have just been disposed of. My question is: Is mass mass? In other words, will the equivalent dimensional thickness of 5/8" drywall be the same as 1/2" drywall assuming they were glued together with construction adhesive. I was planning to use approx 4 - 5 layers of 1/2" on one side of the MAM wall and then use the balance of 1/2" I have left and add some 5/8" for the other side. Thanks in Advance.
yes, Mass is Mass. The weight of the mass depends on the density of the material. Gypsum, for example, weights about 700kg/m3. So a 1mx1m panel of 12,5mm (1/2") GB weights about 8,75kg while a 1mx1m panel of 15mm(5/8") weights about 10,5kg. 2 panels of 12,5mm will weight about 17,5kg. Thus making it MORE mass than one panel of 5/8. Itsa simple. There's a list of materials with density sticked on this forum, find, read and learn. it's all good... :yahoo:
