Drop ceiling lighting options

I know drop ceilings are not common in studios, but I thought I'd ask here anyway. I'd like to remove the noisy fluorescent lights in my practice room's drop ceiling. I know it's possible to install track lighting to the ceiling grid but the ceiling is already a bit low. I'd prefer to have recessed halogen lights; is there a standard way of installing them in drop ceiling? Thanks. Josh
If your ceilings are low, can you remove the drop ceiling and gain some height? Why not think about wall mounted lighting? are the fluro's noisy in your gear (buzz)or just to the ear? as you may just need to replace the starter or tube? lil
Thanks for your response, lil.

Yes, but I don't want exposed joists. I'm building a cloud to compensate for the low ceiling.

Don't want to rewire. This is a minimalist job  so I'll just work with the existing wiring.

Yes, the ballasts are surely on their way out, and I read in Rod's book to stay away from fluorescent lights in studios. I did some more research and found out that "new work" housings will mount onto the ceiling grid so I think that's what I'll get. Thanks.
