The garage that I'm converting is 6.38 meters wide, and 6.20 long. The height is not great - (with isolation in floor/ceiling) it is 2.35 (right side) and in left side 2.30 so it is angled. So far I plan to have a control room (2.3 meter x 4 meter) + live room (rest of room). My questions are: 1) Will it be better with 1 big room? 2) If so - how do I make a good listening position and same time good live performance? 3) Should I make all walls angled - or is it easier to control with acoustic panels if parallel? 4) should floor be wood, plywood, Vinyl or carpet if just 1 room? 5) If 2 rooms should control room be carpet floor? 6) To support roof I would need to have 3-4 upright posts to support roof - will they make problems? 7) Height is not great - is that a show stopper for project? Any ideas what to do about that?
stickies, read them or weep. :cop: yeah, I know.. :blah:
I don'y know if 2.4m is a legal height in the mystery country that you leave in?

Hi, It has to be min 2.35 - so I need special permission.
After studying a little more (wow acoustic is quite complicated... ) I realize that in case of Garage conversion I'm better off with 1 single room - which will give me about 87 m3 (6.38 x 6,2 x 2.2) - little less for inside off course. I suddenly have offer to rent part of my neighbors building (a farm). I can have any size I want, basically - whole building is 10 m x 25 m and 2.6 m high as average (3 m in middle and 2.2 m in sides.) Its very well isolated (pigs used to live there.. ) walls are made of brick. I want to be able to record drums and grand Pianos - but also use studio for vocals and mixing. I will spend most time in control room. About size - I don't want room to be too big as all costs will be higher: isolation, floor, heating, etc. Any good suggestions of a raw plan? Will 10 x 6 m will be a good size for a control room, live room and drum box?
More Info: Noise: I reside out in country so my biggest worries are bird sounds, dogs barking, rain and wind. Since studie must be used for sampling I need NO noise from outside or inside. Traffic is not a big problem - but in summertime there can be cars nearby. Cars are really bad on sampling as they are impossible to noise reduce. I have option to rent studios or co-work with studio owners to create acoustic sound libraries, but I spend months on projects - recording 6-8 hours a day so It would make my life simpler if studio was close to my house and eventually it would pay off better. I hope to get some help to do a simple floor plan for a good sound. I'm mostly concerned about getting the right size for ex. recording a big grand piano. cheers Thomas
