Hi there, I will soon be starting construction of my Home Recording Studio Room... Currently the AREA I have is 22 Feet by 13 Feet rougly... It is not that much from that space around 1/3 of the area will be the control Room and the rest the Live room for Recording Drums, Guitars and Voices!! I have a limited space but is more than enough to work my music in there... Now the biggest question with that area of space could someone suggest me a Height for the Live Room?? or for the Whole thing?? I can go as High as I can cause the space is Adjacent to my 2 story house and to another wall that can be risen... Currentl the height of the lowest wall is around 9 feet!! Will that be high enough?? All the walls are going to be made out of concrete and for the insides Dry Wall and normal insulation! I don't think I'll be making a Floating floor cause it will be built at ground level plus My budget might not be that large... Anyways any help would be apreciated and I can post pics later of the place where it is going to be built!! Thanks. Roberto
"I can post pics later of the place where it is going to be built!!" That's what I'm talkin' 'bout!!!! Fresh dirt!!! This is a new build? Should be fun!
Yes sir completelley new Built!!
If this is a new build, I would recommend a cleared ceiling height (from floor to ceiling) of at least 10' - especially since you are going to record drums in there. Better if you can go to 12' ceiling height on the tall side (sloping ceiling height). You have a good enough space to accommodate a live band BUT my experience is in the future you will realize the floor area is really kind of limited. For a new build, is there any way you can extend the Length and Width by at least 3'? Since this is a new build you gotta ask these questions now. Expansion once the studio is built and operational is going to prove more costly. I'm also finalizing plans for a new studio build inside a shell attached to my house. the dimensions of the shell L=28.7' W=16.6' H =19.5'(sloping height 21' on house side, 18' on front side). Already, I regret not having taken more of the available floor area BUT I am stuck with the shell now, no way my wife will allow me to tear down this newly built attached to our newly built house. I'm also building a loft so I can give my asst his own Edit Room (which will sit on top of the Control Room.
Unfortunately I cannot make it larger in width cause basically the room is within 2 already Built walls so basically that is all I have to work with... I will post pics of the place tomorrow!! Regards, Roberto
Oh I see. Can you make the ceiling high enough so that your Control Room can be on a Loft (2nd floor) then you'll have more space for the Live Room.
Nah that will be too expensive for me... And I rather have it like a nice Typical Studio to watch the Musicians in front of me... Still I think it is a decent space for nice recordings... So 10 to 12 feet is a good height? Regards

With your studio size, I'd say 10 feet is fantastic! Sorry for bothering you with crazy ideas, hehehe.
Oh No bothering!! LOL!! I actuall thought of it for a minute or two... Actually a bit more than 2 minutes LOL then came back to earth!! But thanks will take the suggestion! Regards!
Actually - I would lean more towards 15' to 17'......... you are talking very VERY small rooms - and any increase you can get in volume is going to help you tons. Rod
Will that Height mean any extra work regarding Acoustic treatment??

The larger a room gets (volume) the easier it becomes to treat it. Rod
