Located in Makati, Philippines. I have searched and searched and it seems my concern/situation is quite unique. We're going to relocate our studio soon to a purpose built enclosure attached to my residence (in a relatively quiet street, residential neighborhood, minimal vehicle and people traffic). Please note I purposely used the word "Intent" and not PLAN - as I am still gathering information and feedback before I move it up to the PLAN stage. Right now I'm still thinking out loud. Compounded by my really BAD Sketchup skills (my 7 year old boy does better models!) Therefore I'm not really looking for specifics BUT rather, some general insight on whether my intent - A. crazy, studio and is a waste of money OR - B. workable, provided certain things are put into place The structure's dimensions Width = 5.05m Length = 8.8m Height (sloping). - 20' On the Residence side - 18' on the Front side I initially thought of using this space as an open loft office for my marketing firm but due to the two massive condo projects that sprang next to our studio's current location, I decided to go ahead and relocate the studio anyway to this place attached to our new home (though my wife knows that the place has always been for the studio "for real" :D ) Now, the ceiling height is fantastic and will be great for drums, brass and strings. But the floor area is still rather limited! (Should I tear the front wall and extend it NOW?) Moving ON to the crux of my post... My INTENT and UTMOST DESIRE is to have a separate EDIT ROOM for my assistant (he does a great job of prepping tracks for my mixing, and he can tolerate that thing I hate the most - (Auto)-tuning). So I thought, WOULDN't IT BE NICE to HAVE AN EDIT ROOM that sits on a floor on top of the Control Room? The major assumptions on the Edit Room are: - there will be minimal foot traffic. Only one person (my assistant) will use it. Maximum two when I go up when I need to see a real human. OK, he can have visitors or spend time with a client especially when doing the Auto-tune. - his space will have a workstation and small nearfield monitors (002, G5, KRK v6), and probably a 2 seater sofa See attached for a proposal on the loft (2nd) floor where the Edit Room will be.

The Edit Room will not occupy the entirety of the Loft so that we can get more of the high ceiling as usable air space. We are consulting with Structural Engineers as to the best way to ensure a rigid steel structure (column beam and footing) that will not BOW and be SPRING-y. Hardwood is being considered as the floor surface. We cannot (would really like to avoid) have cement slabs anymore or there will be too much damage and dirt to the already nice space. The only bummer here is that there will be steel columns where the Control Room will be (thus I will be forced to have a smaller Control Room. I'm also concerned that the columns might lead/cause some shorts (coupling) even though my intent is for the Double Stud Walls never to touch the columns. I'm also concerned that the Control Room ceiling i will have to be attached to the the steel beams. My intent is to have clouds on top of the mix position's sweet spot. So there, just a guy thinking out loud here hoping for some insight from the regular sages on structural concerns for studios. Peace!
Not getting any action. Anyway, here are photos of the location.
