Hi, I've just joined in the hope of learning lots of information to help in the construction of my new studio.
I'm currently in the research stage, looking at possible properties for a commercial recording and rehearsal studios. My plan - if you can call it that! - is to have a control room through to a recording room suitable for small bands, with 2 further rooms available to rent out for practice/rehearsing, with expansion of a recording facility into those rooms at a future date if thought necessary. I currently have my own, pretty basic, home studio but I am keen not to make too many mistakes with what is going to have to be a profitable business. I have most of the equipment I need to physically record already, computer, software, audio interface, monitors etc, so am looking for advice on the physical aspects of the studio, hence my arrival here :-)
My budget is around 8,000 UK pounds, ($11,000 US) which will have to include all building and acoustic work so I guess my first question is does that seem a realistic budget?
One of the properties I am looking at that I think is suitable is a large open space, with an office at one end suitable for a control room. After a corridor is taken off the side the available space for all 3 rooms would be 13m x 4.75m, so possibly breaking down into 3 rooms of 4m x 4.75m (13' x 14' 6" approx). Does this sound like enough space, and are the relative dimensions ok for good acoustic design? Would it be better to have 1 larger and 2 smaller rooms?
Well I won't got on any further yet, that's enough for everyone to go on right now. Thanks in advance for any help, and feel free to ask any questions
Cheers
Karl

Hi Karl, and welcome!
It's difficult to answer your questions for several reasons, but mainly because of the lack of sufficient information about your current situation and your expectations.
The answer on your budget is: "maybe". It might be possible, depending on many, may factors.
I'd suggest that you read the announcement at the top of the forum about what to do to assure getting as many responses as possible. The announcement leads to this post. Actually, several people, who are experts on this forum, will not reply if you do not do what is written in the post. Many others who are very helpful, will not reply out of respect for the moderators' wishes.
