How do I send a private message ?- it appears in outbox but I do not know if it has been sent or not.

Locate a post that has the user name you are trying to contact in the posted thread.
Click PM (It is directly under the message of the wanted user.) This click should take you directly to YOUR inbox and should read
TO: (the user name you are trying to contact)
BCC: None
Don't click PM under your message...it isn't the same.
The sent message stays in "outbox" until the recipient has actually read the message.

On a related kind of note, my Mom used to email me things and then call me to see if I had gotten the email! Funny lady:)
