Hey there this is my first post im makin with this website, and firstly i just wanna say thanks to John for setting up a platform of useful info!
Basically im in the process of building a home studio and i have a few questions about the walls. The primary structure of my building has already been built and therefore i am only building walls inside it. The room shape is almost a perfect square, however the room inside im building for the control room will be more rectangular based.
I've read up on several sites that it is not recommended to build a room with parrallel walls, but due to the situation i am in, one of my walls is already positioned. Therefore i only have control over one wall, and i was advised to build this wall at a wider angle than the opposite, to reduce standing waves. I was curious to know how much wider i needed the room to get from one side to the other in order to avoid disruptive wavelengths. The proposed width at the moment is 8ft on the speaker side of the room, and then i intend to make it wider as the room moved further from the speakers, but im unsure how wide i need to make it in order for it not to be disruptive. If i stretch the back of the room out to 8.5ft will that be enough? or do i need to take it to 9/10ft to be safe?
Thanks for your time and help,
Mij

There is an announcement at the top of the forum about what to do to assure getting as many responses as possible. The announcement leads to this post. Actually, several people, who are experts on this forum, will not reply if you do not do what is written in the post. Many others who are very helpful, will not reply out of respect for the moderators' wishes.

You must have that response setup as a macro by this point lol...
Your control room wants to be balanced, symmetrical, mirror image, etc. You should look into getting a better set of room ratios. Most likely you will find that in a pre- existing area, the ceiling is going to dictate the start number in your selected room ratios. As a guide, a six degree angle per wall is recommended when splaying. As far as anything else goes, read the link post by Stuart so you can give more information about what you are doing. It helps you mostly...so read it and try it out.Hey there this is my first post im makin with this website, and firstly i just wanna say thanks to John for setting up a platform of useful info!
